Red Sleeping Beauty is a Swedish pop band that gained recognition in the indie pop scene during the early and mid-'90s. The band originated in Stockholm in 1989, featuring members Kristina Borg, Niklas Angergård, Mikael Matsson, and Carl Johan Näsström. After a hiatus in the late '90s, they pleasantly surprised their fans in 2016 with a new album titled "Kristina." Subsequently, in 2019, they released another album named "Stockholm," showcasing a more polished and synth-infused sound.
In the early '90s, they released an EP called "Pop Sounds," and from there, they delved into international music exploration. Collaborating with various labels in the United States and Japan, they released the "Smile" EP in the U.S. in 1995. Additionally, they teamed up with Spain's Siesta for an EP titled "Wealth of Information." Their inaugural full-length album, "Bedroom," emerged in 1995 through Germany's Marshmarigold. Following the 1997 release of "Soundtrack" with Siesta, the band took a hiatus. In 2000, Siesta compiled their singles into a release called "Singles."
During the hiatus, Niklas Angergård pursued another project called Acid House Kings, while Mikael Matsson contributed to the band The Charade.
In the '90s, Red Sleeping Beauty produced notable guitar pop songs. Recently, three covers, originally by Would-Be-Goods, Marine Girls, and The Association, were discovered in their old tape recordings. These covers possess the distinctive charm that characterized Red Sleeping Beauty's '90s music. The three pop tracks were released on their Bandcamp page in 2019, under the title "Covers 1992-1997," and have never been released in a physical format. Now, you can acquire this 3-track EP on CDR via Chaotic Pop Records.
