The Poppy Crappy Band
I dream of becoming a pop star,
So I asked my friends to form a band,
We wrote some songs just like our local favorite.
I want to shine like those grand stars.
I look forward to play in a big fest,
Where everyone could look at us,
Come, listen to our songs on Spotify,
in a twee playlist, side by side with the dare.
In the spotlight ... I want to be
A pop sensation......for all to see
I'm ready to embrace the corporate role,
Never Letting GoI
If you're searching for a hand
To guide you through the night
I'll be there, I'll understand
I'll hold you tight
If you're ever feeling lonely
Lost in the endless sea
I'll be your one and only
To bring you back to glee
I will never leave you behind
I’ll be there, I’ll be there for you
about
Being in an indiepop band is not about dreaming of becoming a pop star. It's not about shining like your local favorites. It's not about playing at a big festival with a large audience. It's not about feeling proud when your songs are played by millions of listeners on Spotify and included in playlists with impostor twee bands. If you have those kinds of things on your mind, then your band is just a poppy, crappy band!
Indiepop is as simple as kids playing in the playground with pure hearts – nothing more than having fun with friends, sharing the music we love, writing authentic and honest lyrics, printing some T-shirts to fund our recordings, independently organizing gigs with our friends, and not giving a damn about how many people will see us play. Indie-pop is about connecting with your friends on a personal level, sharing stories and experiences through your music.
Indiepop is also about supporting the bands you like by collecting their physical releases. It's a reminder that music is not merely a commodity to be bought and sold; it's an expression of the soul, a way to navigate the ups and downs of life, and a means of forming meaningful connections with like-minded souls.
The poppy, crappy bands will always be born with their stupidity, while true indiepop may never become a mainstream sensation; however, it will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who still believe in it!
With love,
Anselmus
